Granda Liturgical Arts
The tabernacles crafted by Talleres de Arte Granda are among the finest in the world. They are made from the best materials, with the intention of providing a worthy home for the Blessed Sacrament.
The tabernacles are crafted in brass metal and plated in either sterling silver or gold. Models are available in varied styles to complement the ornament of any church or chapel. They include Romanesque and Mozarabic tabernacles based on early medieval altar frontals and reliquaries; Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque tabernacles inspired by historic models collected by Talleres de Arte Granda over the last century; and tabernacles inspired by the more recent artistic movements, such as the Art Deco.
Many of our tabernacles feature enamel panels and details. The vitreous enamels are painted by hand in the traditional manner, with glass powder onto copper. These are kiln-fired multiple times to form hard, jewel-like colorful plates. As these are all hand-made, each is a unique piece. The colors and details can be changed according to the customer's desires; almost any image can be painted on the enamel doors. Please do not hesitate to suggest works of art for the enamellists to copy.
The interiors of the tabernacles are always plated in gold. All have interior decoration, usually a medallion with the words ADORE TE DEVOTE and an engraved adoring angel on the interior door. Many models, however, have more elaborate ornamentation and metal reliefs inside them.
A distinctive feature of the tabernacles of Talleres de Arte Granda is a small latch that covers the keyhole when it is not in use, blending into the surrounding ornament. Two custom keys are included with every tabernacle. Additional keys, key chains and key boxes are also available.
Most of our tabernacles can be made with a double door for exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. A safe can be added to many of the larger models. Please contact the office in Chicago to discuss these options or any custom designs or modifications.
For installation, the tabernacles have openings in the interior floor for bolts. Gold-plated bolt covers are provided, but not the bolts themselves.
Veils and corporals can be made for the tabernacles. The cost of a veil varies according to the model. A tabernacle corporal costs $75.
